The Former Bishop of Kurnool knew firsthand what it was to be from a poor family with no chance of a good education. After just one year of school, his family could no longer afford school and needed him to work to help provide for his family, so his teacher decided to tutor him after school. After many invested hours, this boy turned into a fine student. He was given the opportunity to learn and eventually graduated with high honors. He followed the call on his life into the priesthood in the Catholic Church and vowed to one day do something more for children like him.

Because of his vision, he built The St. John's School of Excellence in Kurnool, India. This school only allows the poorest of poor children who have tested at high IQs and have great intellectual promise to be educated and live at the school free of charge. But, because it doesn't meet the normal criteria of the Diocese of the Catholic Church, it is not completely funded through the Church, so they have partnered with Forgotten Children to make this dream a reality.

The School of Excellence in Kurnool, India houses 94 children from grades 1-6 that we have on record. This residential school, founded in 2003 is run by local nuns and priests, giving them the best Catholic education in hopes that they will positively influence their country after they graduate. Their goal is to add one grade level each year and grow to house 600 children.

Of the 94 children who reside at the home that we have on record, just 13 are currently sponsored. Although the children's expenses have been covered in the short term by one-time gifts and the general budget, we have a tremendous need for people who will financially support these children for the long term.
